Details
Story / Synopsis
Fang Cheng and Jiang Yu know each other well enough to make a practical bargain: they will marry to satisfy family expectations and keep their own plans moving. Fang Cheng is a cook with business ambitions, while Jiang Yu is an automotive engineer. Their partnership becomes less theoretical when she starts a fast-food venture serving a construction site and he faces an engineering safety crisis. Each discovers that the other is most attractive when dealing with a real problem, not performing the part of an ideal spouse. The question is whether they can admit that their easy teamwork has become something more personal.

Buzz
How It Started
The October r/CShortDramas discussion circulated the Chinese title 机智的联姻生活 and an English rendering, The Witty Married Life. The actual English title on iQIYI is I Do, Buddy. That mismatch is useful for viewers: a clip shared under a literal translation may not surface when searching the platform’s English catalog. This is renewed conversation about a series already released earlier in 2026, rather than an October premiere.
What Makes It Compelling
A practical marriage becomes useful in ways neither expected. Fang Cheng and Jiang Yu already know each other, so their marriage bargain begins without the usual strangers-learning-to-coexist setup. He has an engineering safety problem; she is building a food business. Watching each solve a real problem gives the other a reason to reconsider the partnership, and their childhood history makes every apparent surprise slightly funny: they know each other well, but have not looked at each other this way. The romance grows out of competence and collaboration, not only a forced wedding ceremony. That is why the comic tone can survive even when family expectations and work pressures intrude.
