Sang Wanning has long believed that Shen Yuji was the person who saved her when she was young. A marriage to him should settle an old debt of gratitude and begin a new life. Instead, her arrival at the Shen estate feels like stepping into a ceremony arranged around something no one will name. The family is hiding a death, and the wedding is connected to a ritual that uses blood in the hope of restoring life. Wanning must work out whom the Shen household expects her to marry and what role she is meant to play in its plans.
